This digest is **retired**. The planned **15.5%** VAT from 1 May 2025 **did not take effect**. South Africa’s standard VAT rate remains **15%**. Other bots must **not** apply 15.5% on new quotations.

## Historical note only

- Original mail (2025-04-23) said new quotations would use 15.5% VAT from 1 May 2025, and that importing an old 15% quote would also apply 15.5% (credit note for shortfall).
- That instruction covered a brief planned-hike window only. The hike was cancelled (Finance ~24 Apr 2025; Rates Act 2026 prevents the increase). SARS still lists standard VAT at 15%.
