How to Correctly Plug in a Printer Head
Step 1: Power Off Your Printer
This is critical. Always switch off your printer completely before handling the printer head.
Unplug the power cable if possible. Working on a live machine can damage the printhead or the board and even cause injury.
Step 2: Identify Left and Right Sides of the Printer Head
When facing the printer head directly (as if you’re looking at it from the front), clearly mark or identify the Left and Right sides. This helps avoid confusion when plugging in the cables and prevents reversed connections.

Step 3: Unplug the Connector from the Carriage Board
Carefully unplug the ribbon cable connector from the printer’s carriage board. This is the part where the printer head connects to the main board that controls printing actions.
Step 4: Plug in the Cables
Make sure to plug the Right cable into the Right slot, and the Left cable into the Left slot on the connector.
Important: Look closely at the connector. You will see yellow-marked areas without any pins inside. These indicate blank zones and should not be connected to any cable.

Double-check:
-
Cables are not reversed.
-
No bent pins.
-
Blank yellow-marked slots are empty.
Step 5: Secure the Printer Head
Once the cables are plugged in correctly, gently secure the printer head back onto the printer. Ensure it sits firmly and aligns properly with the carriage system.
Step 6: Plug the Connector Back In
Finally, reconnect the cable to the carriage board. Make sure the connector is fully inserted and locked into place.
Quick Checklist:
-
Power OFF the printer
-
Identify Right and Left sides
-
Unplug old connector
-
Right cable → Right slot
-
Watch for yellow empty pin markers
-
Secure printer head
-
Reconnect to carriage board
By following these steps carefully, you reduce the risk of damaging your printer head or misaligning the cables. For best results, refer to your printer’s specific service manual or reach out to your supplier for model-specific advice.
