The brief from the client was to create trophies for a kid's soccer award. The request from the client was simple coloured award certificates, but we decided to add some fun designs in the form of a Holographic [Vinyl](https://buythis.co.za/vinyl-cutters#ai) Printed Certificate!

Design Overview:
The trophy design includes the player's number, club badge, the year, the player's name, and their achievements such as being the top scorer with the number of goals. Additionally, the trophy features physical attributes like defensive skills and physical prowess. The design is complemented by a photo of the player, making it a personalized and special memento.

Step 1: Design Modification
To create the black-and-white version, we first needed to change the colour of the entire trophy design. This allowed us to extract the outer shape, which was then taken into Illustrator for vectorization. The vectorized shape was used for [laser cutting](https://buythis.co.za/desktop-lasers#ai) the ABS material, ensuring it matched the original design precisely.

Step 2: Laser Cutting the ABS
Using a high-powered [laser cutter](https://buythis.co.za/desktop-lasers#ai), we cut the ABS material twice to achieve a clean cut through the 3mm thickness. The settings were optimized at 20mm/s, 85% power, and a 150W tube. A tip: choosing a clean ABS surface is crucial to avoid imperfections when applying vinyl.

Step 3: Printing on Holographic Vinyl
Opting for holographic vinyl adds a unique touch to the trophies. This material, though more expensive, offers a special effect as it reflects a rainbow of colours when viewed from different angles. Using a [UV printer](https://buythis.co.za/uvdtf-printers#ai) ensures solid colours on top of the holographic base, preventing any shine-through issues that might occur with liquid ink [printers](https://buythis.co.za/large-format-printers#ai).

Step 4: Final Touches
After printing, we cut out the holographic vinyl by hand, ensuring a precise fit. Cleaning the ABS board and applying a soapy solution aided in placing the vinyl accurately without distortions.
