VEST Certification: Validate Your Video Skills - About the Exam Congratulations on completing the core VEST training! You've moved beyond amateur recording and now possess the essential technical and artistic knowledge required for modern video production.

The VEST Certification is not just another certificate; it is your opportunity to prove mastery of the principles of composition, lighting, sound, and editing taught in the main course. It validates that you can successfully take a project from concept to finished, polished video—all using the gear you already own.

-

The Certification Goal The VEST certification stamp signals to clients, collaborators, and potential employers that you are proficient in the fundamentals. It confirms you know how to:

Shoot with Intention: Master composition, angle, movement, and light. Capture Professional Sound: Deliver clean, mixed audio every time. Edit for Engagement: Use software (like CapCut) to cut, pace, and refine a video for maximum viewer retention. -

What the Certification Exam Covers This Exam is designed as a final, comprehensive assessment of your skills. It consists of two major components:

  1. The Theory Test (The Knowledge Check) Format: A comprehensive, timed exam covering all seven sections of the VEST curriculum: Narrative, Gear, Shots Composition, Movement Transitions, Lighting, Sound, and Post-Production. Purpose: To confirm your understanding of the essential rules, terminology, and technical principles necessary to plan a successful shoot. -

  2. The Practical Exam (The Final Project) Format: The creation of a single, fully produced video (similar to your "After Video") from an entirely new concept. Requirements: You must conceive, shoot, and edit a finished video that intentionally and demonstrably uses techniques from every core module of the VEST curriculum. You will be required to submit a simple planning document or checklist with your final video. Purpose: To prove you can translate theory into a high-quality, professional final product using only a phone and basic editing software. -

Pass the Theory Test and successfully execute the Practical Exam, and you will earn the official VEST Certification.

2. Practical Test

🛠️ VEST Certification: The Practical Exam (Final Project)

The Practical Exam is your ultimate challenge: to execute a fully produced video that demonstrates the effective, intentional use of every technique learned in the VEST curriculum. This is where you prove you can turn theory into a high-quality finished product.

I. Project Overview & Requirements
Requirement Detail
Video Topic Must be new and different from your "Before" and "After" videos. Choose a simple narrative, instructional, or demonstration topic (e.g., "A Day in the Life of My Workspace," "How to make a specific meal," or "A Review of a local park").
Duration Minimum 1:00 (One minute) and Maximum 1:30 (One minute, 30 seconds).
Deliverables 1. The Final Video File (Fully edited, color graded, mixed audio). 2. The Planning Document (A simple list showing where and how you applied the required techniques-see section III).
Required Tools Phone Camera, Basic Editing App (like CapCut), and any necessary free resources (music, SFX).
II. Mandatory Technical Checklist

The final video will be assessed on the intentional use of the following techniques. You must use all of these elements effectively:

Module Mandatory Techniques to Demonstrate
Narrative Must have a clear Beginning, Middle, and End.
Composition At least one shot must clearly use the Rule-of-Thirds.
Shots Must include examples of a Wide Shot, a Medium Shot, and a Close Up.
Movement Must feature at least one smooth Pan, Tilt, or Tracking shot.
Lighting Lighting must be soft and intentional (avoid harsh midday sun or deep shadows).
Audio Must feature clear, isolated Dialogue (A-Roll) and separate Background Music/SFX.
Editing Must use at least one example of an L-Cut or J-Cut and one dynamic Transition (not a basic cut).
Post-Mix Dialogue must be clearly louder than music. Must include a Title/Text Overlay.
III. Assessment & Certification Process

The final grading process is structured to ensure complete objectivity and rigour:

Important Note on Certification: Your submission (The Final Video and Planning Document) will be assessed by an assigned lecturer.

You will not be informed of your Practical Exam grade until the final certification results are officially released.

This process ensures that you focus purely on the technical execution of the project without the pressure of knowing if you have already passed or failed a component.

The final VEST Certification is awarded only if you meet the minimum passing score on both the Theory Test and the Practical Exam.

Upload: Name the samples to your student's name or ID and Topic. (Student Name - Practical)

Submission Instructions:

Complete this practical then submit via email to the instructor at info@ambitious.co.za or use the Academy portal.

Note: Your goal is to make a video that is technically flawless and creatively engaging.

Good luck; make a video that proves the VEST training worked!

Exam Assessment and Results

Thank you for completing the Exam!

Please be aware that your exam submission-particularly the Practical Assessment-requires manual review by a certified instructor.

  2. Assessment Timeframe: Review and grading typically take 5-10 business days from the time of submission.
  3. Notification: Once the assessment is complete, you will be notified with your final score and, upon passing, your official certification credentials.

We appreciate your patience during this review process. Congratulations on taking this final step!
