Notes:
- Smaller boards fit larger machines.
- Max board width limited by gantry inner width; keep ~25 mm clearance each side in production.
- Flat-table design: board length effectively unlimited with feed-roller support.
Z-axis clearance
- Standard EasyRoute Z working distance: 300 mm (marketed as high for general-purpose routers).
- Foam / high-Z options: 400 mm (stepper + normal spindle), 600 mm (servo + high-torque), 800 mm (servo + 9 kW ATC). See also https://am.co.za/router/foam
Table types
- T-Slot clamping — simplest; no 380V vacuum pump; suited to sign-making / home / hobby 220V setups.
- Vacuum table — holds and flattens boards; closed cut-outs without clamp obstruction. 2014+ models often include T-slot corridors (vacuum and/or clamp). Prefer phenol resin / Bakelite surfaces over hard PVC for industrial wear. Liquid-ring vacuum pumps (5.5 kW standard, 7.5 kW optional) preferred over weak regenerative blowers.
- Water-cooling table — spray nozzles for stone / soft metals; standard on marble & aluminium routers.
Spindles
- Smallest EasyRoute spindle: 3 kW.
- Chassis designed to upgrade across EasyRoute-capable spindles.
- Families: 100 mm standard (3-5 kW), 125 mm high-torque (4.5-7.5 kW), ATC (9-12 kW class).
- Voltages: 220V options exist (notably 3 kW sign-making); larger often 380V.
- RPM typically 0-24,000.
- Cooling: water-cooled spindles (pump/cooler/chiller) vs ATC air-cooled with compressor air shield.
- Collets: ER20 (max ~13 mm), ER25 (~16 mm), ER30 (~22 mm) depending on spindle class.
- Rule of thumb: cutting depth approx tool diameter per pass for feedrate; more powerful spindle enables deeper/faster cuts without slowing as much.
Drive motors
- Stepper: default for most jobs; no-load moves ~15 m/min.
- Servo: better precision/torque/speed; choose if needing <0.5 mm/m guaranteed precision, hard materials (granite/aluminium block class), or higher traverse (~50 m/min no-load). Real cutting speed gains often ~20% because tool/material bottleneck.
- Material hardness guidance: EasyRoute generally Mohs <5; for Mohs >3 prefer servo + high-torque/ATC.
Configuration cheat-sheet (from guide)
- No 380V three-phase -> sign-making router with 3 kW / 220V.
- Foam / thick molds -> high-Z foam routers.
- Wood/plastic thin sheets -> linear tool-change configs when available; engraver router for <0.5 mm precision; high-torque for hardwood/hard plastic.
- Stone/glass/soft metal needing coolant -> water-cooling table; ATC if frequent tool changes; aluminium router for soft metal plates >2 mm; stone router + high-torque for hard stone.
