"Transcript": "Howdy, guys. In today's video, we're gonna be looking at how to actually trace our res the image to vector design. But before that, let's have a quick intro first. So, today's video can be found on softwaretraining.co.za where we make short and easy to watch problem-solving videos. Now, if we're heading into the actual tutorial here. So like I mentioned, in today's video, we're gonna be looking at how to actually now convert our design or our raster into a vector. And then, um, yeah, later, we'll look at cleaning that up. So now, first of all, you wanna make sure you are in your vector editor. So from these options. Then what I'm gonna simply do is go to file, go open, and go select a logo. Now, I've got these random logos, so I'm gonna select this one just as a sample. Now, um, sometimes you'll make a design in, let's say raster. Then, or a client send you the designer raster and maybe you can't find the original vector, and that's where this comes in handy, where now we can actually convert this image into a vector. So, I've opened it here. I just wanna confirm that it is a raster, so I'm gonna zoom in. As you can see here, it starts pixelating. Now, if we wanted to edit this as raster form, we'll be doing it in, like, we'll change to this menu for raster, but we're just gonna leave this in vector. Now, on the left here, also, we have our layers. So under our layers tab. And this is where we can now convert things. So I'm just gonna select this background layer that we imported. Go to the top menu here called vector, and then we're gonna go down to where it says trace or image trace. And open this, and now from here, we're gonna have a few different options. Now, we can preview it and so forth, or we can also use a split view if you wanna compare it to the rest thing. Yeah, it won't be so obvious. Maybe if we zoom. Then over here, you can see after and before, so we can see nicely there how it turns it in. So you can see here if you want more sharp edges or so forth, you can change that. We've got the edge threshold, so we can adjust this if we wanna add some more detail and so forth. I'm just gonna keep this at stock at 50%. We also have a curve fitting tolerance. So as you can see here, if we decrease this, we can start seeing the changes on our actual um Edge or on a vector design, so if you wanna get it more sharp, but I'm gonna keep this about maybe 30, 39, around there, 38, 39. And then I'm simply gonna say apply. And now, a few things have happened. So, on the left here, even though it still just looks like a background, we now have a little arrow here next to it. So if I click that, you can see it expands and it's got all our different shapes. With Inya Now, also just to confirm, I'm gonna zoom in here. You can see it no longer pixelates. But it also allows us now, if I select a shape, so within this, then we can actually edit this with our vector tools. And then, um, as you can see that, uh, it's no longer a raster. It is now a vector. Which is pretty nice. Now, I like to, before I start cleaning up, I first get a bit of an overview and then I make sure everything converted correctly cause sometimes you can get some weird artefacts. When you do this. And if it looks fine for me, then I would normally move on to uh cleaning up. Now, to clean up these designs, it can be a bit of work depending on how complex your design is. Now, some different programmes as well like Inkscape. Uh, instead of breaking it into so many different shapes. Um, you can dictate by colour, so then it will keep all the similar colours together where as you can see here, this, oh, let me jump in here, the C. is uh separate from the O, which is, you can see that. So it's kind of separated all the different shapes, which it takes a bit more of a job cleaning up, but I find that it does a little bit better job at converting these images, so it looks a little bit more cleaner and smoother. So you kind of have to see what's your, what's your pros and cons and choose something to work with.
