How to open CAD files for the CAM feature in FabriCAM (from this page)

  1. After you have saved a CAD file, open it in the base FabriCAM programme if you want to cut it or simulate it with CAM.
  2. From CAD, open File and choose Close CAD (or restart) to return to the base programme.
  3. Optional but recommended if you want to preview in CAM: choose New Sheet. The leftover example is a 1000 by 1000 base sheet with a basic thickness; confirm OK.
  4. Use the primary toolbar Open File icon. Navigate to the saved file (the leftover example is open contour) and choose Select.
  5. Choose quantity and nest versus manual. The leftover example is manual, quantity 1, then OK.
  6. If the file has an open contour, open Configuration (top gear) → first tab Import → Allow import open contours → Apply and OK. Closed shapes import without this.
  7. Open the file again (open contour, Select, manual, quantity 1) so the shape is added.
  8. After importing, you can turn Allow import open contours off again.
  9. CAD and the base / CAM feature are different; you work with them separately.
