If FabriCAM™ shows errors or fails during a configuration/initialisation step, a common cause is antivirus software (including Windows Security / Defender) quarantining or blocking FabriCAM files. The fix is to add the FabriCAM installation and config folders (and optionally the executables and config file types) to your antivirus exclusions/whitelist. Below are step-by-step instructions for Windows Security (Defender) and extra troubleshooting tips that apply to other AV products as well.

Quick step-by-step (Windows Security / Defender)

• Find the FabriCAM folder

Common examples: C:\Program Files\FabriCAM\ or C:\Program Files (x86)\FabriCAM\ or wherever you installed FabriCAM (check your installation path).

• Also note any config or temp folders (for example C:\ProgramData\FabriCAM\ or a folder in %APPDATA%) used by FabriCAM.

• Open Windows Security

Press Start → type Windows Security → open it.

• Go to Virus & threat protection → Manage settings

In Windows Security select Virus & threat protection.

• Click Manage settings under Virus & threat protection settings.

• Add an exclusion

Scroll to the Exclusions section and click Add or remove exclusions.

• Click Add an exclusion → Folder.

• Browse and select your FabriCAM installation folder (and any config/data folders).

• Optionally add the FabriCAM executable(s) (.exe) via Add an exclusion → Process or add file extensions like .cfg / .ini using Add an exclusion → File or Extension.

• Restart FabriCAM

After exclusions are added, restart the FabriCAM service or the PC and re-run the reconfig utility.

Extra checks & troubleshooting

• Check Quarantine History: Open Windows Security → Virus & threat protection → Protection history. If FabriCAM files were quarantined, restore them and add exclusions.

• File / Folder Permissions: Ensure the FabriCAM folder grants the service/process the needed read/write permissions. Reconfig often needs write access to config files.

• Run as Administrator: When running reconfig tools, launch them with Run as administrator.

• Real-time protection: Only as a temporary diagnostic step, you can briefly disable Real-time protection while running reconfig — re-enable it immediately after.

• Network installs & mapped drives: If FabriCAM runs from a network share, make sure the AV on the machine (and possibly the file server) excludes that network path, or install locally.

• Other AV products: The same idea applies — look for “exclusions”, “whitelist”, or “trusted applications” in Avast, Bitdefender, ESET, McAfee, Sophos, etc., and add the FabriCAM folder and exe(s).

• Firewall: If FabriCAM communicates over the network, ensure your firewall isn’t blocking its service or ports.

Safety & best practice notes

• Only exclude trusted software. Excluding reduces scanning for that path — only exclude folders you trust and that belong to FabriCAM.

• Keep FabriCAM updated. Use the latest FabriCAM version so you run software with security fixes.
