# Braai refurbishment how-to videos (AM training / support)

**Job:** bring an old, rusty braai (barbecue unit with wooden side panels) back to life instead of throwing it away. The rust and grime are removed with an AM **RustOff** hand-held laser cleaner, new wooden parts are profiled and cut on an AM **CNC router** with an automatic tool changer (ATC), and the unit is primed, sprayed and varnished. The videos frame it as a refurbish-and-resell business idea. This index collects the two AM main-channel uploads of this project (the full episode and a short clip) that were not yet listed in another AM how-to index. Deduplicated by watch ID across all AM how-to index pages (channel indexes alone do not count as how-to coverage).

**Source:** local AM YouTube dump `youtube.jsonl` (main channel; refreshed 2026-10-18 00:25 SAST) and the Buythis product dump `buythis.jsonl`. First written 2026-10-18 19:30 SAST with 2 videos. **YouTube and Buythis were not crawled.** Titles and watch URLs below are taken from the dump as written. The videos were **not** watched. Both have English transcripts in the dump, and the steps below are paraphrased from them only. Nothing was invented to fill gaps.

## English dump titles (2 unique watch URLs)

AM-channel uploads are framed as **AM training/support sources**. Each watch URL is a source.

### Should you trash or renovate your braai? (full episode, about 5 minutes)

Paraphrased from the dump transcript:

**Rust and grime removal (RustOff laser)**

1. The starting point is a braai that was about to be thrown away. The team chose to restore it with the RustOff laser and the CNC router.
2. The RustOff unit used has a variety of different cleaning patterns, so the operator could reach every angle of the braai and strip stubborn grime and rust from every nook and cranny.

**New wooden parts (CNC router)**

3. The wooden parts were profiled and cut on a large AM CNC router with an automatic tool changer (ATC).
4. The presenter says the job ran at **15 m per minute** for profiling and cutting, which was about **half the speed** it could have run (slowed down so the camera could follow), and it still took only **12 minutes**.

**Finishing and fitting**

5. The metal was primed and given a spray outdoor finish so it will last outdoors (the presenter's estimate is another 10 years). The grids were cleaned up a little.
6. The new wood was varnished, and the parts were fitted. The unit was handed back with a light coat so the customer can choose the final colour.

**The business idea (presenter's own figures)**

7. The presenter says a new braai of this type starts from about **R50,000**, while the refurbishment cost about **R1,400** plus some time.
8. His estimate is that someone who owns these machines and only refurbished and resold these braais, at about **10 a month**, would have roughly a **R100,000** business.

### Short clip of the same project (under a minute)

A short version of the same project with the cost and business-idea part only. It quotes the same **R1,400** refurbishment cost and **R100,000** business estimate, but gives the new-braai price as about **R30,000** instead of the R50,000 said in the full episode. Treat both prices as the presenter's rough figures, not as a market price. The clip points viewers to the full video on the channel.

Both videos end with AM's standard closing line ("we sell machines, we fix machines, we teach machines").

## Related SKUs (Buythis dump only; no prices, no stock)

Product names come from the Buythis product dump (`buythis.jsonl`; **not crawled**). Prices and stock are not stored on this index. The videos do not name the exact RustOff model, the router model or its bed size. They show a RustOff hand-held laser with selectable cleaning patterns and a large ATC CNC router. The rows below are current Buythis products of those types; the air-cooled RustOff-Original pulse cleaners are rated for all surfaces. No primer, outdoor paint or wood varnish is listed in the Buythis dump. Check each product page before quoting.

## Notes

- Matching: the two main-channel dump uploads titled "Should You Trash or Renovate Your Braai?" (distinct watch IDs, both kept), minus any video already in another AM how-to index page. Channel indexes listing the same watch URLs do not count as how-to coverage.
- The 15 m per minute, 12 minute, R1,400, R30,000 / R50,000 and R100,000 figures are the presenter's own spoken numbers for this one project. They are not a quote, a guaranteed cutting speed or a business forecast.
- Laser cleaning needs the safety gear and settings in the product manual; test settings on a hidden area first.
- Quote current specifications and prices from the product page, never from the videos.
- Live stock is never stored here; check the live stock feed for availability.
