# Printer parts and setup how-to videos (AM training / support)

**Product:** AM.CO.ZA **inkjet printer parts and setup**: bulk ink systems, ink dampers, ATools printhead voltage and alignment settings, rolled media feeders, flatbed table extenders, single-pass printing units and the UV lamp collision sensor, plus two general setup and repair tips. This index collects 10 videos from the AM tools channel that were not yet listed in another AM how-to index. Most AM roll-to-roll printer videos are in the [large format printer how-to index](large-format-printer-howtos.md), and FlexiPRINT software tips belong to AM's software training pages, so they are not repeated here. Deduplicated by watch ID across all AM how-to index pages (channel indexes alone do not count as how-to coverage).

**Source:** local AM YouTube dump `youtube.jsonl` (tools channel; refreshed 2026-10-18 00:25 SAST). First written 2026-10-18 17:21 SAST with 10 videos. **YouTube was not crawled.** Titles and watch URLs below are taken from the dump as written. Videos were **not** watched. Where the dump has a usable spoken transcript, the summary is paraphrased from it only. Videos without a transcript (or with only music or a few words) are listed by title only. Nothing was invented to fill gaps.

## English dump titles (10 unique watch URLs)

Grouped by topic and sorted by date. AM-channel uploads are framed as **AM training/support sources**. Each watch URL is a source.

### Ink supply: bulk ink system installation and testing ink dampers

Two videos on getting ink to the printhead cleanly.

- **Installing a bulk ink system on an Epson printer (2023):** no transcript in the dump, so only the title is listed. The am.im product JSON for F-INK/TANK/5 lists this video, and says the bulk ink system is a DIY product you assemble and install yourself, with AM support on WhatsApp 060 600 7000.
- **Testing an ink damper before use (2025, paraphrased from the dump transcript):** dampers come in many shapes and sizes, so first use the correct one for your printhead. Never just plug a new damper in; test it. Fit a syringe to the outlet and pull: the damper's film should pop up and go down as air moves. Then hold the inlet closed, pull, and keep your finger still for a few seconds. If the film stays down the damper holds pressure; if it slowly returns, it leaks somewhere, so throw it away rather than trying to fix it. A brand-new damper may not pull at all because its outlet seal has no hole yet (the printhead's needle normally pierces it). The presenter opens the outlet cap with a flat screwdriver and makes the hole with a small star (Phillips) screwdriver about the size of the printhead needle, never a flat one, which tears the seal. When filling, hold the damper upright and draw ink up into the syringe; stop once a little ink reaches the syringe, and you should see no bubbles. Bubbles mean a faulty damper or air from the supply side; push the ink back to find the leak. A damper should start full of ink; if a lot of air builds up inside, it can no longer hold the right pressure, so take it out, draw the air off and refit it. The same test applies to UV dampers.

### Printhead settings in ATools: voltage type, voltage value and bi-directional alignment

How to set printhead voltage in the ATools advanced settings (2026, paraphrased from the dump transcript):

- **Colour order:** set the colour order for each printhead; with a single printhead you enter the same order twice.
- **Set the voltage type first.** Choose a voltage type, print a nozzle check and keep the type only if every colour comes out with solid lines. The types are written as hex numbers describing the four phases of the waveform that squeezes ink out; lower numbers are weaker and higher ones (for example F6) are stronger. Start a new printhead on a weaker type. Older heads, or very dense ink, may need a stronger type.
- **Then do the alignments,** including bi-directional alignment. The bi-directional test pattern should look symmetric: the first block mirrors the last, the second mirrors the second-last, and so on.
- **Then fine-tune the voltage value.** The presenter treats 512 as ratio 1 and about 560 (roughly 10 percent more) as the safe maximum, and starts a new printhead lower. If the best bi-directional result falls between two settings, a little more voltage makes ink leave the nozzle slightly faster and can make the pattern symmetric. As heads age you can raise the voltage gradually.
- **Repeat after weather changes,** because ink density changes and the best settings can move.

Values are the presenter's guidance for AM's printers; check your printhead and board documentation before changing them.

### Media handling and print tables: A3 rolled media feeder, flatbed table height and single-pass printing

Three short videos without a usable transcript in the dump, listed by title only: a rolled media feeding device with two round bars on an A3 width printer (2023), adjusting the height of a flatbed printing table (2024; the am.im product JSON for the F-FLAT/E table extenders lists this video), and a single-pass high-speed full-colour printer printing on a conveyor assembly line (2024).

### UV printer protection: collision (impact) sensor, UV lamp and chiller checks

Parts that protect a UV flatbed printer while it prints (2026, paraphrased from the dump transcript; the am.im product JSON for F-LED/COLLISION lists this video):

- **Chiller and water pipes:** the chiller pumps cold water to the UV lamp and takes warm water back to cool it. Make sure the intake and outlet pipes at the back of the machine are pushed in properly so nothing leaks while printing. Before printing, check that the chiller is on and has water in it; the presenter says it takes about 1.5 litres of distilled water. A dial sets the UV lamp intensity.
- **UV lamp:** cures the ink instantly as the carriage prints, so you don't wait for it to dry.
- **Collision (impact) sensor:** mounted beside the lamp to protect the printhead and carriage from hitting anything on the bed, for example a raised piece of masking tape. On impact the carriage stops at once and the screen shows an anti-collision emergency stop message.
- **Clearing the error:** remove whatever is on the bed, confirm that the servo motor status and platform height are normal, then click Release.

### Setup and repair basics: switching board software to English and straightening transport dents

Three short tips.

- **Changing a new printer motherboard's language to English (2023):** the dump transcript has only a few words, so only the title is listed.
- **Changing ToolsPro from Chinese to English (2024, paraphrased from the dump transcript):** after installation the software opens in Chinese. Open the language menu shown in the video, pick the second option (English) instead of Mandarin, then close the software and open it again.
- **Straightening a dent from transport (2026, paraphrased from the dump transcript):** if a panel or profile arrives bent, first put something solid such as a tube or a piece of wood inside behind the bent area to support the profile. Put a piece of board over the outside so you don't mark the surface, then knock the bent part back into shape. Once it is nearly straight, move the support up behind the area and tap the edges smooth.

## Notes

- Matching: tools-channel dump titles about printer ink supply, printhead settings, media handling, print tables, the UV collision sensor and general setup, minus any video already in another AM how-to index page and minus FlexiPRINT software videos (covered by AM's software training pages). Channel indexes listing the same watch URL do not count as how-to coverage.
- Voltage and waveform values are the presenter's guidance; wrong settings can damage printheads, so change them in small steps.
- Older videos may show earlier hardware versions; quote current specifications from the product page.
- Live stock is never stored here; check the live stock feed for availability.
