How to add a fake key to the old CMY in CorelDRAW (from this page)

  1. This Printing CMYK to CMY with Fake K part is about adding a fake K (black) back onto a CMY image in CorelDRAW after the real K channel was removed.
  2. The previous video removed K from the image. The live block shows the colour dropper reading K 0 on that layer.
  3. Duplicate the image in Object Manager: right-click the object, Copy, then Paste, so two identical layers exist. Keep the top copy selected.
  4. With the top layer selected, open Effects → Adjust → Hue/Saturation/Lightness (the live block also says "fix" for Effects; shortcut Ctrl+Shift+U). Use the channels mask, set Saturation all the way left so the top copy is black and white.
  5. Isolate only the darks: Effects → Adjust → Tone Curve. Click about a third of the way up on the graph and lower that control point until only the black you want to keep is visible. The live block prefers Tone Curve over Brightness, because Brightness can start adding K again.
  6. Open Object Properties (Docker) → Transparency tab. Set the transparency mode to Multiply. The live block shows this as the fake black. Colour picker on dark areas still reads K 0 even though the composite looks darker.
